2013 Kidding Season:)

Kidding season is in full swing with a short break now. Count so far is bucks 4, does 1. We start again first week in April. I just love seeing the kids running and bucking around the house. I am a little afraid for them as I walked out to feed the other day and a coyote was standing by my porch. By the time I got my gun, it was gone. I really need to get a handgun to wear around the farm on my hip for those instances. I hate to kill wild animals, but I can't lose my kids or chickens to predators. Once they get one of them, they will be back for more. I had one male coyote that just kept coming in the daytime and was so bold that he would not even run away if yelled at him, waving my arms. He just stood there and scratched the ground, marking his territory! My brother took care of him for me but now he lives too far away :(

Kelsee and I have been very busy with school but we will both be done by next year and we will be Happy! I am finally adjusting to the empty nest since she married and bought a house down the road. I was really sad at first but there are definite advantages to having no kids in the house. Mark and I have more time for each other, and the house is much cleaner. I no longer have to pick up after her, even though she also helped with the housework sometimes. She is finding out now what is like to be responsible for other's messes! I think she finally knows who the house elf is that cleans in the night!
Anyway she was a beautiful bride!

Busy times

Well kidding season is fast at hand. We are crazy busy with both Kelsee and I working and both also going to school. I just made batches of pachouli oil, and eucalyptus/spearmint oil soaps. They turned out beautifully and smell great. I am experimenting with some natural colorants. I used cinnamon in the pachouli and it gave it a warm beige color with flecks in it. I have had a lot of homework over the last week and I have room to breathe for a day, so I plan to make a couple more batches tomorrow. Kelsee has been updating the website and she added a counter for the kiddings that are coming in a couple weeks. You can see it at www.kinderkornergoats.com
Off to bed now. Sleep tight!

Hi everyone.
It is with great sadness that I dismantled the Christmas tree and put the decorations away. I am taking a small break in between homework for my master's program. I set some more eggs in the hatcher yesterday after moving out the chick hatch. 15/20 isn't bad. The little ones grow so fast. They sure are hardy. I will soon have to decide where to go with the growing ones. Looking ahead to spring and kidding season. I have kids coming in 29 days..but who's counting. Lol. We still have to give their shots and trim them one more time before they become too fat. We could feel babies kicking today. I love the fact that kinders can have babies anytime of the year. Such a great quality in them. I will be acquiring a couple new does soon that are bred for June. Such exciting times and it gets me out of the winter blues. Can't wait for spring. Hope the weather holds for our kiddings, we have been lucky so far.
Blesisngs,
Lisa
